I think Eddie go Newton and da Vinci mixed up a little. Newton studied and wrote on optics, and da Vinci did the mirror-writing. Also, while double-checking myself, I found that Matteo Zaccolini was after da Vinci and before Newton, and he wrote on colors (in reference to painting) using mirror-writing for his original drafts. Of course, knowing how completely brilliant Eddie is, he probably got Zaccolini mixed up in there, too.
